Services

Southborough Veterinary Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital.  We routinely provide the
following services:

Examinations:  We recommend routine annual exams on all canine, feline, ferret, rabbit
and guinea pig patients.  Many of the diseases we see are preventable or best treated if
caught at an early stage.  Geriatric patients may need to be seen as often as every 3-6
months to best monitor their changing bodies.  Most of our patients come to us at least
one other time (besides the wellness visit) during the year for medical issues that arise.

Vaccinations:  We base our vaccine protocols on the recommendation of national
veterinary boards such as the American Animal Hospital Association and the Feline
Board of Practitioners.  Each patient has a vaccine schedule tailored to that patient that
depends on risk factors and the health of that patient.  Vaccines are only given with
owner consent.

Surgery:  Our veterinarians perform most of the surgeries needed by our patients.
Common surgeries include spays, neuters, tumor removal, foreign body removal,
cystotomies, and abdominal exploratories.  Special cases may necessitate referral to a
specialist.  Occasionally we have a specialist come to our hospital to perform surgery.

Ultrasound:  We routinely have outside specialists come to perform ultrasound and
endoscopy for our patients.  These specialists are board certified in internal medicine,
so they provide us for a valuable second opinion on difficult cases.

Dental Care:  Our brand new dental equipment allows us to provide state of the art
dental care to our patients.  We perform routine prophylactic scaling and polishing as
well as extractions and more complicated oral surgeries.  Dental disease is a common
and often painful condition.  We consider the ability to provide our pets with healthy
mouths as one of the great gifts of modern veterinary medicine.

Emergency Care:  Both of our veterinarians are well trained in emergency medicine.
Common emergencies we see are pets that have been hit by a car, poison ingestion,
bite wounds, lacerations and foreign body ingestion.  We see emergencies during our
regular business hours.  For after hour emergencies, our answering machine directs our
patients to Tufts Vet Hospital in Grafton, Acton Animal Emergency Center, VESCONE in
Waltham and Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston.  Our answering machine does
accept messages, and our doctors often arrange to meet patients on weekends or after
hours for less urgent concerns.

Nutrition:  We offer a wide variety of specialty foods to meet the needs of our patients.
Many diseases such as heart disease, urinary tract disease, food allergy and obesity
require special dietary consideration.

Grooming:  We do not have a certified groomer on staff.  However, we do commonly
provide grooming services for pets that are not amenable to traditional grooming.  We
commonly clip heavily matted cats or animals that require a little sedation.  Haircuts are
performed at owner’s risk.

Boarding:  We do not offer general boarding services, however we will keep our own
patients as the need arises, and as our space allows.
